New York Harbor seen from the water in 1805, a small copper engraving published in London on 31 October 1805 by J. Gold, 103 Shoe Lane, Fleet Street, and engraved by Hall after a drawing initialed G. T. The plate title "New York" is lettered in script below the oval of the image.

The panorama is wide and low. Several sailing vessels crowd the foreground and middle distance, among them a large ship with flags flying, a schooner leaning under full sail, and a cutter with a pennant. Smaller boats lie on the water, and wooded points close the view at either side. Across the harbor the low skyline of the city shows a line of rooftops, with two church spires and a number of masts packed at the wharves. The sky is drawn as a heavy, broken cloud bank.

The view records New York in the first years of the 19th century, when it was a port of masts and wharves with only a modest skyline, before the later growth of the waterfront and the city beyond Manhattan's southern tip.
