About ships & sea battles
Ship prints range from technical plates of hulls, rigging and ship types, made for encyclopedias and naval treatises, to portraits of named ships and dramatic scenes of battle and shipwreck. Galleons and men-of-war of the 1600s and 1700s, Chinese junks and Pacific canoes, Victorian yachts and the ironclads of the 1890s are all here.
Naval battles were a favourite subject of Dutch, French and English engravers, from the Dutch fleets in the East Indies and the Venetian wars with the Ottomans to Trafalgar.

Questions about ships & sea battles
Are the ship prints originals?
Yes. Every print was made in its own day, by engraving, etching or lithography, for a book, a magazine or a set of plates. None is a reproduction.
What makes a ship print collectable?
Accurate rigging and detail, early date, original hand colour, a named ship or a famous action, and good condition with wide margins.
